Daechuta is a military music performed by kings or noblemen and military marches, consisting of wind instruments and percussion instruments.

Daechuta was composed of wind instruments such as family register, Nabal, Nagak, Nagak, and Taepyeongso, and percussion instruments such as Jing, Buk, Bara, and Janggo, which were performed by the king's movements, the march of noblemen, and military music belonging to the propaganda office and the English language.

In 2015, there was a great slope where 11 hidden treasures revealed their existence. All of these were recorded in 1906 and released on Victor in 1907, and were discovered by Bae Yeon-hyung, director of the Korea Record Archive, and Seok Ji-hoon, a senior researcher.

They included three songs from Daechuta, and the nine-member "KOREAN ROYAL NATIVE BAND" is listed as the performer. The musical features of the three songs (three of the 11 songs above the major) are theses by Professor Kim Young-woon of Hanyang University, "The contents and characteristics of instrumental music in the Victorian album of 1907," the Korean Music Research Institute, 2015 and page 73-103.I've got a view of something.

Let's listen to these three songs today. From September 9 (Friday) to 10 (Saturday), 2016, the National Gugak Center's Jeongak Band reenacted on the stage of the Yeakdang. The current Daechuta usually has more than 10 members, but in 1906 when it comes to the reenactment of the "Hwangsil Daechuta," a total of nine performers were composed as stated in the album. Of course, there is no record of which instruments each of these nine played. The sound of two taepyeongso, nagak, and bugle can be found in the sound source.

To help you appreciate it, I will briefly introduce the characteristics of each piece of music mentioned in the paper above.

gamsangeul dopgi wihaeseo wiui nommuneseo eonggeuphago inneun gak akgogui teukjingeul gallyakhage sogaehagetseumnida.

-Gwangsil Daechwita: Although there are some differences in melody or decorative sounds, it is generally the same song as the current song "Daechwita".

- hwangsildaechwita:ilbuseonyurina jangsigeumeseoyakganui chaineun itjimandaebubunhyeonjaeuidaechwitawagateunggogiragohalsuitseumnida.

-Barbon: It's a special song to listen to most carefully. Since none of the pieces currently played are considered the same, it is a newly confirmed piece of music from the Chuita family. All of these 1906 sound recordings were organized and recorded extensively with the help of Missionary Hulbert, so this song was probably one of the major pieces of music taken by then-takers. It hasn't been played in recent years, but this record has made its existence known, so I'll say it's a big income.

- byeolgat - gajang juui gipge deunneun teukbyeolhan gogimnida jigeumyeonjudoeneunakgokjungegateunggogiragosaenggakhalsuinneunggogieopgittaemunechwitagyeuiakgokjungesaeropgehwagindoeneumagirammarijyo. 1906nyeonui modeun eumwoneun heolbeoteu seonggyosaui doumeuro jojikjeogeuro repeotorireul jjago daedaejeogeuro nogeumeul haetgi ttaemune i gokdo dangsi chwicheongsuga yeonhaenghaetdeon juyo gok jung hanayeotdago saenggakdoemnida. igeosi geullae yeonjudoeji anatjiman i eumbaneul tonghae geu jonjaega allyeojyeosseuni keun sodeugirago hal su itjyo.

-Guggeori (Gutgeori): The melody in the first half of this song is similar to "Cheonsubara," which is used as an accompaniment to the Buddhist Bara Dance, and the latter part is similar to "Hwimori."

gutgeori : i gogui jeombambu seonyureun bulgyo jangmi chumui banjueumageuro sayonghaneun jeongsubarawa gatgo hubambuneun neunggyehwimoriwa biseuthadamnida.

The three songs reveal many characteristics of professional musicians in Gyeonggi-do, with most of the melodies going in sequence and frequent use of decorative or interstitial sounds.

In particular, this performance was used to demonstrate and produce military band costumes that were used for the king's journey during the Joseon Dynasty, so please pay attention to them. The yellow Daechuta costume, which was used previously, was inherited from the royal court during the Korean Empire, but the military band costume that protested the "King Guk's Journey" was newly produced and presented for the first time in this performance to reveal the aspect of marching music.
