    statutory anniversary
    Every October 15th is Physical Education Day. It is the anniversary of the Republic of Korea, which was designated to raise people's awareness of sports, improve physical strength, and realize the ideals of the Olympics.

    On this day, sports events, sports competitions, and other sports events are held at each school, and various sports activities are conducted to suit the situation at work.

    The government also rewards those who have contributed to the development of sports.

    Anniversary
    Hanbok Day was designated in 1996 to arouse interest in hanbok and to promote its excellence and industrial and cultural value.

    Since 2014, the event has been hosted and supervised by the Hanbok Promotion Center under the Ministry of Culture, sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft Design and Culture Promotion Agency.

    Gyeongbokgung Palace, the center of Seoul and the symbol of the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, was used as a venue to promote the beauty of hanbok to the world and explore the possibility of hanbok as a tourist content.

    First Awards Day
    On November 30, 1963, a film awards ceremony was held to improve the quality of Korean films and to develop the film industry.

    It was first hosted by the Chosun Ilbo. Among the domestic film awards ceremonies, the Grand Bell Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards are considered one of the top three film awards, and are recognized as the highest authority among them. Currently, it is hosted by sports Chosun and broadcast live by SBS.

    On November 30, 1963, the first Blue Dragon Film Awards ceremony was held at the Civic Center.

    Lee Man-hee, director of "The Marine Who Never Returns," won the director's award at the film festival for 17 theatrical films, while actors Um Aeng-ran and Shin Sung-il won the popularity award by voting.

    The 40th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2019 was won by director Bong Joon-ho's film "Parasite," which won five awards, including the director's award.

    Opening Day
    Jangchung Gymnasium was Korea's largest indoor stadium with 8,000 seats and is a circular stadium.

    Originally used as an army gymnasium, it was changed to a sports stadium and opened on February 1, 1963.

    In the 1960s and 1970s, Jangchung Gymnasium was a regular venue for various control events as well as sports.

    It is where various national celebrations such as the $10 billion export ceremony, the Liberation Day, and the inauguration ceremony of the president were held.

    Born in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do in 1973, Park Chan-ho, who attended Middle East Elementary School, Gongju Middle School, and Gongju High School, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994 when he was a sophomore at Hanyang University, becoming the first Korean to advance to the Major League.

    He has a career record of 476 games in 17 years in Major League Baseball, 124 wins and 98 losses in 1993 innings with an ERA of 4.36.

    In particular, 124 wins are the most wins by an Asian pitcher. It's a milestone that no one will ever encounter.

    In April 1973, at the 32nd World Table Tennis Championships in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina), women's table tennis, led by Lee Erisa and Jung Hyun-sook, won the title and established a brilliant gold medal tower in Korean table tennis.

    Ssireum is a folk game of our own with the 5,000-year history of the Korean people and is valued as a Korean cultural heritage.

    Throughout its long history, ssireum, which has always been with the Korean people, was an equal movement that anyone can enjoy regardless of status.

    Ssireum is our traditional technique that does not require tools and has a healthy vitality to jump over the walls between people while being barefoot.

    Among the 450 players, Lee Joon-hee, Lee Bong-gul, Hong Hyun-wook, Lee Seung-sam, and Choi Wook-jin, who dominated the wrestling at the time, participated in the final of the 1st Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Competition.

    Surprisingly, however, Lee Man-ki, who was 20 years old, became a man of great strength.

    Completion date
    Jamsil Indoor Stadium is an indoor arena located in Seoul sports Complex.

    Construction began on December 1, 1976, and was completed on April 18, 1979, with 11,069 seats installed.

    It is used as an indoor ball game stadium such as basketball, volleyball, and handball, and various performance events are also held.

    It was also used as an indoor football stadium in 1985. It was used as a basketball and volleyball stadium at the 1986 Asian Games and at the 1988 Summer Olympics.

    Opening Date
    The Olympic Boulevard, which began construction in 1982, was one of the 5th Republic's comprehensive development projects.

    It was constructed to deal with the demand for transportation south of the Han River by establishing or improving a 37km-long motorway along the Han River.

    The road was also aimed at connecting Gimpo Airport to Jamsil sports Complex (Olympic Main Stadium), located in Jamsil, along the Han River, to transport foreigners at the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Summer Olympics.

    As a result, unlike Gangbyeon Expressway, the road south of the Han River was named Olympic Boulevard.

    On May 25, 1973, 200 male athletes and executives from 19 countries participated in the first World Taekwondo Championships.

    On May 28, 1973, 35 representatives from 19 countries gathered to form the World Taekwondo Federation.

    Until the 7th competition in 1985, only men's competitions were held, and the 1st World Women's Taekwondo Championships were held together with women's athletes participating in the 8th competition in 1987.

    On June 18, 1961, the final of the professional wrestling championship was held at Seoul Stadium.

    Korea's professional wrestling began to be known to the public in the early 1960s when Jang Young-chul and Chun Kyu-duk formed the "Korean Professional Wrestling Association" and held various competitions.

    Later, in 1965, Kim Il, who was active in Japan, returned to Korea and became a popular sport.

    It was a World Cup competition co-hosted by Korea and Japan from May 31 to June 30, 2002 under the auspices of FIFA.

    At the 2002 World Cup soccer tournament on June 22, South Korea defeated Spain and created a semi-final myth after a close match that even led to a penalty shootout.

    Captain Hong Myung-bo, the last kicker in the penalty shootout, scored a goal to confirm his advance to the semifinals.

    It was the first time for an Asian team to reach the semifinals.

    It was also the first time in 19 years that Korea has advanced to the semifinals since the 1983 World Youth Association in Mexico.
