On October 17, 1972, a constitutional amendment was declared to dissolve the National Assembly and suspend political party activities under the emergency martial law.
The president elected by indirect election and removed the presidential term limit.
The president was given the right to appoint one-third of lawmakers, to take emergency measures and to dissolve the National Assembly. It was the most undemocratic constitution in history with the Yushin Constitution, which guarantees the president's permanent power and super-constitutional authority.
